About Us...

Mrs Young
Welcome to Preston Primary School.
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Mrs Linda Young and I have been  Headteacher of Preston Primary School since January 2002.

I am very proud of the school; we have fabulous children with supportive parents and excellent staff. Preston Primary School is a very happy place to be with a warm, caring atmosphere and a positive attitude to hard work and to school improvement.

We had a positive Ofsted inspection in April 2002 and we have met all the targets in the Post Ofsted Action Plan; including our new library which is now up and running. This doesn’t mean we are complacent though; we are constantly looking at ways we can improve the school and what goes on inside it.

The aim of this site is twofold. Firstly it is to give new or prospective parents valuable information about the school and secondly it looks back over the past year to report on various aspects of school life .

I hope you find it interesting and informative but if there is anything you feel we might add in the future that would be of interest to parents, please let me know.

 Linda Young

History
Preston Board School was opened on the 14th January 1878 with a complement of just 17 girls and 19 boys. The Rev. E. Evers said prayers and declared the school open. By 1880 the numbers had expanded to 111 children. The old school continued to flourish and the old school served the community of Preston well, with numbers peaking at 194 in 1966, until 1974 when the present building was opened.

In recent years it has been necessary to expand and alter this new building. In the late 1990s the old library and a resource room were combined to create a new classroom. This was shortly followed by the provision of outdoor play equipment for both infant and junior children. In 2002 interior walls were built to make all classrooms self-contained and in 2003 the administration and staff room area was expanded and redesigned to accommodate the needs of a rapidly expanding staff.

Finally, our new purpose built library was added in 2004 complete with electronic filing system to complete our post-Ofsted action plan.

Future Goals
No school can afford to stand still and as further change and development becomes necessary we aim to keep moving forward to make this school a happy and successful learning environment for our pupils.
